Lagoon by Jean-Georges : The restaurant
On March 24th, my wife and I celebrated our 10th wedding anniversary at Lagoon by Jean-Georges restaurant. We started our week-long Bora Bora vacation at the St. Regis with dinner at Lagoon, and ended our trip there as well. We made our reservations 3-4 weeks in advance to secure our desired 7 pm dining time.
Upon arriving at Lagoon by Jean-Georges, we arrived one hour early to enjoy a drink at the beautiful outdoor bar facing the mountains and sunset. This was one of the highlights of our evening and trip.
The restaurant is beautifully decorated and creates an intimate atmosphere with the other diners. Since we were seated after dark, we did not have a view, but if you book an earlier reservation, you can request a table by the window to enjoy the sunset and mountain view.
Lagoon by Jean-Georges : Menu & degustation
The Lagoon by Jean-Georges’s menu offers a diverse selection of options that range from seafood, land, and vegetarian dishes. Starters and main courses are available. The majority of main dishes are served in steps by the chef and included in the price of each dish.
We began our dinner by ordering a glass of red wine. In true St. Regis style, upon being seated, we were presented with a cool washcloth in the signature Tiare water scent.
My wife and I both ordered the Lamb which was served in two steps.
1st Step: Smoked Lamb with Thyme • Tomato Chutney • Caramelized Onion Purée • Roasted Potatoes
2nd Step: Confit Lamb Shoulder Eight Hours • Light Cottage Cheese & Coriander
We also ordered a side of Chef’s Truffled Mashed Potatoes, Beef Lus, and Confit Ego Yok. We ended our dinner with Vanilla and Chocolate Molten Cake and ice cream.
The entire meal, from beginning to end, was exceptional. After our wine was served, we were provided with complimentary bread and three types of butter spreads.
Following the bread selection, we were served an amuse-bouche to awaken our palates.
During the meal, our exceptional waitress brought over the cast iron pan to show us our lamb cooking on top of smoked thyme. The aroma filled the restaurant when she lifted the lid. Afterward, she plated the lamb with its side accompaniments and presented it to us as our main course. Additionally, she brought over a side of mashed potatoes. The lamb was perfectly cooked, with a slightly pink center and a tremendous flavor. The mashed potatoes were decadently rich, creamy, and flavorful, making them the perfect complement to the lamb dish.
After completing the first step, we were presented with the second of three small lamb shoulder bites. These bites were wrapped in something similar to a fried egg roll and were incredibly flavorful.
Lastly, dessert. The molten cake was warm and gooey, filled with rich chocolate flavor and cream.
And in true Lagoon excellence, after dessert, we were presented with an assortment of candies and truffles as compliments of the restaurant.
Lagoon by Jean-Georges : The service
The service at Lagoon by Jean-Georges Restaurant was exceptional from the moment we walked up the boardwalk to the bar. The bar team, led by Marc the manager, was amazing. We were then taken inside and seated at our reservation time. Our amazing waitress made the evening exceptional by acknowledging our wedding anniversary throughout the night.
